On the morning of July 4, a deleglation of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions led by its president, Nkole Chishimba, visited the CULR. Li Xiaobo, Vice Director of the International Department of the ACFTU, Wu Wanxiong, Vice President of the CULR, and Yang Dongmei, member of the Standing Committee of the CULR Party Committee, Director of the School of Labor Union, and Vice Dean of the School of Marxism, met with the delegation. Relevant personnel from the International Department of the ACFTU, the International Office of Cooperation and Exchange of the CULR, the School of Labor Union, and the School of Trade Union Cadres Training attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Vice President Wu Wanxiong warmly welcomed President Nkole Chishimba and his delegation. He introduced the history, development, educational characteristics, program settings, faculty team, and student situation of the CULR, reviewing the long-standing friendship between China and Zambia.
President Nkole Chishimba expressed his gratitude for the warm reception of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the CULR, and briefly introduced the historical development of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions. He mentioned that the biggest challenge facing Zambia Congress of Trade Unions is how to unite workers and formalize employment for workers. The primary task is workers’ training and education. He hopes to strengthen cooperation with the CULR to provide more workers with good training and education.
During the meeting, Vice President Yang Dongmei introduced the basic situation of the CULR's School of Labor Union, the situation of the 17th National Congress of Chinese Trade Unions, and related research. Li Bingbin, General Secretary of Party Committee of the School of Trade Union Cadres Training, detailed the training programs for trade union cadres at the CULR. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on issues such as international seminars, foreign student training, long-term and short-term training for international trade union cadres, and international faculty training within the trade union system.
The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions is the most influential trade union organization in Zambia, which was established in 1965. It is a member of the Organiation of African Trade Union Unity and the International Trade Union Confederation, playing a significant role in the African and international labor movements. Currently, it has about 220,000 members from 4,246 affiliated (industrial) member organizations covering various sectors nationwide.
