School of Social Work

The School of Social Work was established in July 2019. It was separated from the Department of Labor Union to meet the needs of economic and social development, social governance innovation, and the development of the labor movement. The school aims to excel in social work, and consists of the Department of Social Work, the Department of Sociology, the Psychology Teaching and Research Office, and the Practical Teaching and Research Office. There are currently 24 faculty and staff members, including 17 full-time teachers, 2 professors, and 9 associate professors. Among the full-time teachers, 14 have doctoral degrees, 11 serve as graduate student supervisors, and 6 have overseas study or visiting experience.

The Social Work program at the school has a long history, beginning with the adult undergraduate (Undergraduate Program for Model Workers) program approved by the Ministry of Education in 1998. To date, it has trained approximately 600 national labor models and recipients of the National May 1st Labor Medal. It is one of the first programs at the school to enroll regular undergraduate students. In 2019, the Social Work program was selected as one of the first "Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites" in the Ministry of Education's "Double Ten Thousand Plan". It was also recognized as a "Characteristic Program of Continuing Education in Beijing Higher Education Institutions" by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, and its teaching team (Undergraduate Program for Model Workers) was selected as a "High-Level Teaching Team for Continuing Education in Beijing Higher Education Institutions". In March 2020, the school introduced a new Sociology program and enrolled the first cohort of undergraduate Sociology students in September. In November 2021, the school was approved to offer the Master of Social Work (MSW) professional degree program and enrolled its first cohort of master's students in 2023. In June 2022, the Social Work program was designated as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site.
