On January 6 and 7, 2011, the City University of Hong Kong held an international conference on "China's New Labor Regulations - Practice and Challenges". The conference was sponsored by the UK Economic and Social Research Council, the University of Manchester, and others. The conference discussed topics such as the review and outlook of the three-year implementation of the Labor Contract Law, the possibilities and challenges of collective bargaining and union reform, experiences of collective bargaining and union organization in other countries/regions, strategies for improving working conditions in the new situation, and the roles of various parties involved. Nearly a hundred experts and scholars from the UK, India, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and China's Taiwan Region participated in the discussion.
Professor Feng Tongqing was invited to give a keynote speech titled "Labor Legislation, Labor Organization Models, and Paths to Improve Workers' Conditions in the Chinese Mainland - Retrospect, Comparison, and Strategic Thinking", and also participated in the discussion.
