With the past 75 years of arduous efforts and glorious achievements, CULR ushers in the season full of joy and harvest. Alumni from all over the world gathered together to celebrate the 75th anniversary of CULR, recalling their friendship and discussing the development of their alma mater. On the afternoon of October 13, the CULR alumni conference on celebrating the 75th anniversary was solemnly held at the Room 908 of Zhiyuan Building, Beijing Campus of CULR. The conference was attended by President Fu Deyin, Vice Presidents Liu Lihong and Wu Wanxiong, former Vice President Shen Qinqin, and Yan Xiaofei, Member of the Party Standing Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of CULR, together with more than 300 attendants including the representatives of faculties of secondary-level schools, retired teachers, students and alumni from all over the world.
On behalf of all the teachers and students of the university, President Fu Deyin extended warm welcome to the alumni representatives returning to the alma mater, and expressed high respect to all the alumni working in every sector of the society and making contributions to the country of whom the alma mater is proud. He reviewed the reform, development and achievements of CULR over the past 75 years, gave an outlook on the university's future development, and put forward three proposals to the alumni. Firstly, the alumni are expected to closely follow the updates of CULR's progression, and give suggestions and recommendations to the alma mater; secondly, the alumni are expected to make full use of CULR's alumni exchange platforms to enhance communication and connectivity, so as to jointly contribute to the development of the alma mater; thirdly, the alumni are expected to keep firm in mind the mission of "educating morality, upholding integrity, respecting labor and seeking innovation", well study, spread and use the spirit of Chinese President Xi Jinping's reply letter to the undergraduate class of model laborers, and promote the spirits of model laborers, labor and craftsmanship, making the "spirit of Chinese laborers" a new prevailing trend.
Li Shuang, a representative of retired teachers, shared his experiences of working in the university and passion for education. Gao Yuanyuan, an alumni representative from the 2001 School of Labor Economics (formerly the department of economic management) recalled touching stories of campus life, and expressed gratitude to the alma mater and teachers. Liang Ruming, an alumni representative of the class of model laborers and chairman of the model laborer alumni association, stated to better leverage the resources of the association to contribute to the development of CULR. Liu Dehua, a representative of union cadre training expressed gratitude to the platform of study and development for union cadre trainees, and wished CULR a big success on the journey for the new era. Luo Kaitian, a representative of undergraduate alumni from the 2005 School of Law, hoped that younger students cherish the time of campus life to actively learn disciplinary knowledge, take part in practical activities and improve the personal core competitiveness. Gao Yuechen, a representative of postgraduate alumni from the 2019 School of Public Administration, shared "labor stories" in study and life, and showed her determination of inheriting and implementing the excellent tradition of the alma mater to serve the country with disciplinary knowledge.
In order to further tighten the alma mater—alumni connectivity, and establish an all-round and multi-level platform for exchanges and cooperation, CULR has launched the "plan of alumni link" this year and invited the first batch of 47 alumni to act as "alumni mentors". At the conference, President Fu Deyin and heads of secondary-level schools presented appointment letters to 11 representatives of "alumni mentors" including Wu Qiaoli, Gao Yuanyuan, Xu Xiaoqiang, Yue Liming, Fan Gaochao, Feng Shengsheng, Lu Lei, Xu Jinyu, Hu Fengping, Wang Cancan and Huang Jiusheng.
On behalf of CULR, Vice President Liu Lihong accepted the special donation of 200,000 yuan from An Zhongyan, chairman of Beijing Fengshun industry and trade group, an alumnus of the 2020 class of model laborers, and a director of CULR foundation. An Zhongyan expressed his affection to the alma mater, stressed on the social responsibility of entrepreneur, and said that he will spare no effort to run business well for more contributions and payback to the alma mater and society.
During the anniversary celebration period, CULR has opened channels for small amount donation and dedicated donation, receiving strong support from alumni. The secretary general and deputy secretary general of the university foundation presented certificates to Li Tongyan and other small amount donators, commending their support for the flood control and disaster relief by CULR Zhuozhou campus in the summer of 2023. CULR also held a belated special commendation ceremony to present certificates to Xu Xiaoqiang and other donating alumni, and a collective certificate to the model laborer alumni association.
During the anniversary celebration, CULR alumni from all over the world sent best wishes to the alma mater and teachers in various forms such as singing of the university anthem, congratulatory audio and video, and gifts. At the conference, Ning Yunzhan, a 2022 model laborer alumnus, presented the exquisite calligraphy work of Stories of Labor to the alma mater; the School of Public Administration presented a long scroll painting Spring Flowers and Autumn Fruits; the alumni of 1987 class of labor movement history of the School of Trade Union presented a large porcelain vase; the alumni representatives presented flowers to retired teachers.
At the final stage, all the attending guests sang Shining Days together to recall the unforgettable youth memories. The conference successfully ended in heartwarming and harmonious atmosphere.
On that day, all the secondary-level schools of CULR organized versatile alumni activities, who enjoyed happy reunion at campus, recalling the past and talking about the future. The alumni conference is an integral part of the serial activities celebrating the 75th anniversary of CULR. The University will seize this opportunity to further improve the alumni work mechanism, explore more resources and improve the service capacity, so as to gather extensive forces for building a first-class university with distinctive features.
