From October 29 to 30, the “10th Cross-Strait Occupational Health Academic Exchange Conference” was held at Xijiao Hotel in Beijing. The conference was sponsored by Peking University and Taiwan Occupational Hygiene Association, with the assistance of China University of Labor Relations, Occupational Safety and Health Research Center of National Health Commission, Beijing Institute of Occupational Disease Prevention and Treatment, and Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, Capital Medical University. WU Zongzhi, Director of the Occupational Health Department of the National Health Commission; LIU Yufang, Vice President of CULR; LIN Yichang, Honorary President of Taiwan Occupational Hygiene Association; CHEN Meilian, President of Taiwan Occupational Hygiene Association; REN Tao, Dice Dean of the School of Public Health of Peking University; and WANG Sheng, Professor of Peking University, attended the conference. Eight teachers from the School of Safety Engineering of CULR attended the conference together with more than 100 experts and scholars from the Occupational Health Department of the National Health Commission, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Taiwan Occupational Hygiene Association, National Taiwan University and other governments entities, universities, hospitals and enterprises.
In his keynote speech at the conference, LIU Yufang, Vice President of CULR, introduced the characteristics of CULR and the development of occupational health engineering department in our university, and pointed out that the school attaches great importance to the construction of occupational health engineering department. Strong support is given to teachers, laboratory construction, personnel training and other aspects. LIU Yufang stressed that CULR has the first and only occupational health engineering department in China, and will, as always, support this department for faster and better development. LIU said that since its inception, the Cross-Strait Occupational Health Academic Exchange Conference has provided a platform for exchanges. On this basis, scholars from both sides of the strait established close contact. At the end, LIU expressed the hope that the academic exchange conference will become better and wished the conference a complete success.
Director Wu Zongzhi pointed out in his speech that, in the “Opinions of the State Council on the Implementation of Healthy China Actions” issued by the State Council on July 15, it clearly put forward the implementation of occupational health protection action, emphasizing that workers enjoy the right to occupational health protection in accordance with the law. The “Opinions” also advocates healthy working methods for different occupational groups. The employers shall bear the principal responsibility and the government shall be accountable for supervision, so as to prevent and control the hazards from occupational diseases. The legal and standard system for the prevention and control of occupational diseases should be further completed and employers should be encouraged to carry out health management of workers. WU Zongzhi expressed that the “Healthy China” action provides great opportunities and challenges for the development of occupational health work.
President CHEN Meilian reviewed the achievement of the Cross-Strait Occupational Health Academic Exchange Conference over the past 10 years, and pointed out that, with the joint efforts of scholars on both sides of the strait, the conference has enhanced the friendship between scholars from both sides, provided a stable platform for exchange, and made cross-strait exchanges more in-depth and diversified.
CHANG Dou, Secretary General of Cross-Strait Occupational Health Academic Exchange Conference and Associate Professor of Safety Engineering School of CULR presided over the conference. At the conference, Professor XU Guiqin, Director of the Occupational Health Engineering Department of the School of Safety Engineering of CULR, gave an academic presentation entitled “Comparative study on the effects of long-term operation of PPR, CPVC, PE, plastic-lined steel pipes on drinking water TOC”, and conducted in-depth discussion on the action mechanism of pipes, which is an important link of drinking water microcirculation in the field of environmental sanitation. Associate Professor SHI Jing, Deputy Director of the Department of Occupational Health Engineering, gave a presentation entitled “Theoretical study on the application of edge structure model in occupational exposure follow-up investigation”. This presentation introduces the research findings of using the advanced edge structure model to solve the effect of healthy workers in the process of cohort study. The experts attending the conference had a heated discussion on the contents of the presentation. At the conference, experts and scholars from both sides of the strait conducted academic exchanges on health promotion, industrial toxicants and occupational poisoning, labor hygiene of SMEs, physical factors occupational hazards, occupational epidemiology, occupational ergonomics, occupational stress, environmental sanitation, biological monitoring, dust and pneumoconiosis, public health, labor hygiene of female workers, labor health management, clinical occupational diseases, work-related diseases, and so on.
More than 20 students from the School of Safety Engineering of CULR attended the conference and provided conference services as volunteers, which were highly praised by the organizers and attendees. This conference promoted in-depth exchanges between the occupational health community on both sides of the strait and further promoted the deepening of the academic research and application of occupational health in China.
