From July 26 to 27, the Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) of the International Labour Organization organized the Conference on Future of Work in Bangkok. At the invitation of Ms. Maria Helena Andre, Director of ACTRAV, and delegated by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, two professors from the CULR, Zhao Zuping and Qiao Dong, attended the conference and delivered speeches. The Director and Deputy Director of ACTRAV, together with several staff members, as well as representatives of trade unions, employers, and experts from Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific regions, attended the conference. The Director General of the International Labour Organization, Guy Ryder, and the Secretary General of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, Sharan Burrow, delivered speeches to the conference via video recording.
The conference mainly reviewed the challenging issues in the working world, including labor and society, decent work for all, how public policies and systems can promote social justice in new forms of work and production organizations and the challenges faced, and labor governance.
Professor Qiao Dong expressed his views on the issue of "decent work for all" at the conference. He introduced the cultural ideology of employees and emphasized that the significance of work lies in not only the work itself, but also more importantly, the value and meaning of life it reflects. Professor Zhao Zuping gave a speech at the conference on the topic of "How public policies and systems can promote the realization of social justice in new forms of work and production organizations and the challenges faced". After the conference, she took a separate interview from the ACTRAV on the topic of "how to build a future for the labor world based on decent work". At the conference, representatives from various countries gave positive evaluations of China and its trade unions.
The International Labour Organization is the exclusive agency of the United Nations for handling labor affairs, and the ACTRAV is its specialized agency responsible for technical cooperation and policy consultation with trade unions in all countries.
