On October 7, 2021, the 4th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Koskin Lecture” organized by the Academy of Labor and Social Relations was held online via video conference. The theme of the conference was “Transformation of the Labor Market and Employment Policies”. The conference focused on the new changes in the world of work under new opportunities and risks, as well as the new demands for optimizing labor market regulation. More than 70 participants from the labor sector, including researchers, practitioners, trade unions, employer associations, public and private enterprises, government agencies, employment services, recruitment agencies, and representatives from international labor organizations attended the conference. Associate Professor Ji Wenwen and Dr. Wang Shanna from the CULR's School of Business Administration were invited to attend and deliver keynote speeches. The conference was chaired by Nina Kuzmina, President of the Academy of Labor and Social Relations.
Associate Professor Ji Wenwen presented on the topic of “Digital Economy and Future Employment”, introducing the important trends in economic development and the changing impact of technological progress on employment in China. She analyzed the influence of technological progress on job mechanisms in light of digital characteristics, explored the possibilities of the digital economy and future work, and also proposed policy recommendations for inclusive governance to address potential risks in the future labor market.
Dr. Wang Shanna presented “Protection of Labor Rights and Employment of Online Ride-Hailing Drivers: Issues and Strategies”, introducing the basic situation of digital labor platforms in China and analyzing the group characteristics and challenges faced by online ride-hailing drivers based on research data. Using online ride-hailing drivers as a case study, she discussed the problems faced by new forms of employment in China and proposed specific policy directions from a trade union perspective to enhance their labor rights protection level.
At the conference, experts and scholars discussed in depth the theme of "Transformation of Labor Market and Employment Policies." Through this exchange, it expanded the understanding on development of labor market, labor policies, and trade union work in China by overseas academic institutions and scholars, strengthened the international academic exchanges of the CULR teachers, and further consolidated the cooperation between our university and the Academy of Labor and Social Relations.
