On the morning of October 12, Mohammad T. Khasawneh, Chairman of the School of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering, SUNY-Binghamton and SUNY Distinguished Professor, led his delegation to visit CULR. The delegation was received by CULR Vice President Wu Wanxiong in the Meeting Room 308 of Weishi Building, together with the persons in charge of the School of Safety Engineering and the Office of International Exchanges and Cooperation.
At the meeting, Vice President Wu Wanxiong warmly welcomed Professor Khasawneh and his delegation. He said that the 3.5+1.5/4+1.5 joint program for safety engineering co-organized by CULR and SUNY-Binghamton is a major program of international talent training of our university. Since its commencement, seven top students have been admitted by SUNY-Binghamton for graduate studies, and two of them continued to pursue PhD degrees in the US, which fully demonstrate the far-reaching influence of the high-quality intercollegiate cooperation. He explained that CULR's safety engineering major will usher in new development opportunities by starting to recruit postgraduate students from next year, and looked forward to closer cooperation with SUNY-Binghamton in disciplinary development, talent cultivation, academic research and other fields, making the intercollegiate cooperation a normalized practice.
Professor Khasawneh expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highly appreciated CULR's achievements in high-quality talent cultivation. He said that the cooperation between the two universities started from the joint training program of 3.5+1.5 bachelor and master degrees on safety engineering, which has gained fruitful results. Nowadays, international exchange is of great significance, so that SUNY-Binghamton sets international exchange as its 6th development strategy. He expected that the intercollegiate cooperation with CULR will create more opportunities for exchange of teachers and students, and jointly establish a new collaboration platform on a higher level.
During the exchange session, Professor Xu Yanli, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, said that CULR has always attached great importance to international exchanges, and set it as the 4th development strategy. She put forward three suggestions: first, CULR's platform of international student cultivation serves as the basis for exploring student exchange programs between Chinese and American universities; second, CULR welcomes and invites American university students to take CULR's Chinese preparatory courses to learn and understand Chinese culture; thirdly both universities mutually send teachers and students to each other's summer programs to further advance the intercollegiate cooperation and exchanges. Associate Professor Zhao Qiusheng, Dean of the School of Safety Engineering, shared CULR's cooperation with SUNY-Binghamton in recent years, and expressed the intention and willingness of further communication and cooperation.
On the afternoon of the same day, Professor Khasawneh and the teachers from the School of Safety Engineering had in-depth discussions on partnering for postgraduate cultivation, and communication on specific issues of joint postgraduate cultivation. He also shared the information of SUNY-Binghamton with the students from the School of Safety Engineering and the School of Computer Sciences, and answered their questions about the application for study abroad programs.
