Co-organized by the Korean Association for Ethical Studies (KAES), the Department of Education of Gyeonggi Province and the Modern Korea Research Institute of the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS), the 28th Korea-China International Academic Conference on Ethical Studies was held in Korea from September 21 to 26, 2024. Themed "Goodness of Human Nature: Ethical and Moral Education for Future Society", the conference was attended by over 110 ethics researchers and moral educators from China and Korea, who had in-depth and comprehensive academic exchanges in forms of seminar, discussion and site visit. Professor Cao Fengyue from the School of Marxism of CULR was invited by the Korean Association for Ethical Studies to attend the event and make a presentation.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Kim Kuk-hyun from Korea National University of Education and Chairman of KAES, Sun Chunchen, Researcher from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Chairman of China Association for Ethical Studies (CAES), and leaders from the Department of Education of Gyeonggi Province and AKS gave opening remarks successively. Next, Professor Sun and Professor Kim delivered keynote speeches titled AI Application in Moral Education and its Ethical Risks and Moral Education Based on Factual Evidence respectively. Then the conference had panel discussions on topics like the basic theory of ethics, human nature education, technological development and moral education, and life education. Chinese and Korean scholars also attended the sharing session on the practical experience in moral education in schools presented by Gyeonggi Department of Education. CULR's Professor Cao Fengyue made a thematic presentation titled Present Significance of Western Craftsmen and Labor Thought in Ideological Education. Focusing on Marx's labor thought, the presentation explained the significance of craftsmanship and labor thought in today's ideological education from three perspectives of education for building a stronger nation, education for innovation and education for happiness, and in particular shared CULR's labor models education and Chinese President Xi Jinping's reply letter to the labor models class in 2018, receiving positive response of attendants.
Through exchanging ideas with Korean cultural scholars on practical ethical issues such as the impact of modernization process on the morality and value of people especially the young generation, and discussing with Korean moral educators from Korean universities on the challenges and countermeasures of school moral education in this digital and intelligent era, our delegates have deepened the understanding of Korean moral cultural tradition and the present status of moral education in Korea, which have laid a foundation for further academic exchanges and cooperation with Korean cultural and ethical scholars.
