On the afternoon of June 6, the "China-Belarus Labor Movement Development and Innovative Practice" Symposium co-organized by CULR and the Belarusian International University MISTO was held in the Meeting Room 509 of Zhiyuan Building in both online and offline forms. The symposium was attended by MISTO chancellor Vladimir Pozdnyakov and vice chancellor Roman Dapiro, Dmitry Alekseyezik, head of social partnership and labor relations of the Belarusian Trade Union Federation, Oksana Vesilievich, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Union of Education and Science Workers, CULR president Fu Deyin, and Li Ke, a standing member of the party committee and vice president of CULR, together with nearly 50 delegates, including teachers and students from MISTO, and CULR's School of Labor Union, Law School, School of Labor Economics, and office of international exchange and cooperation.
President Fu Deyin stressed in his speech that the symposium is convened at a time when Chinese President Xi Jinping held an important meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, and the meeting of SCO trade union leaders came to a successful end. He expected that both universities seize the opportunity to deepen and expand academic exchanges and cooperation. He also specially extended the warmest congratulations on the 95th anniversary of the founding of MISTO.
MISTO chancellor Vladimir Pozdnyakov highly praised the new progress achieved in the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China, reviewed the long-lasting and sustainable cooperation and friendship between MISTO and CULR, and had a great expectation for the future.
At the symposium, associate professor Zhou Chao from the School of Labor Economics, Dr. Wang Kan, director of the comparative trade union research center, School of Labor Union, and Dr. Li Na, director of the labor law and social security law teaching and research office, Law School made presentations titled "Overseas Employment of Chinese Enterprises and Labor Market", "Improvement and Sustainable Development of Laborers' Rights and Interests in China-Belarus Industrial Park", and "Study on Issues of Pension Rights for Employees of New Employment Forms in China in the Platform Economy Context" respectively, shared the practical lessons of cross-border industrial parks such as the China-Belarus Industrial Park, discussed issues concerning laborers' rights protection in cross-border industrial parks, and put forward policy advice on improving the social security for flexible workers. MISTO's associate professor Andrey Jedkovsky, dean of the civil law department, associate professor Evgeny Astapov of the occupational safety and social cooperation department, and Dr. Artoym Malmygin, dean of the occupational safety and social cooperation department made presentations titled "Labor Dispute Mediation: Belarus' Experience", "Development of Belarus' Social Protection System under Modern Conditions", and "Factors Affecting Belarus' Labor Flow", shared Belarus' experiences in labor dispute mediation and building of a social protection system, and proposed differentiated incentive policies for employees of different ages based on the incentive theory.
CULR vice president Li Ke noted in his concluding remark that as friendly partners, the two universities have great similarities in educational philosophy and disciplinary characteristics, thereby laying a solid foundation for deep cooperation. Through in-depth discussions on labor market, labor dispute, rights of overseas employees and other topics, the scholars from both universities shared experiences and demonstrated the mutually complementary advantages and broad space for cooperation. He envisaged that in the future, the two universities further cooperate in a wider scope with new patterns, and jointly push ahead the theoretical and practical innovation of trade unions.
The symposium not only provided a high-level platform for the exchanges of trade union movement and labor research between China and Belarus, and offered new ideas and directions for CULR's region- and country-specific trade union research.
