On May 22 Eastern Time, at the invitation of the University of Minnesota, a delegation of five from the CULR, led by President Liu Xiangbing conducted a friendly visit to the university.
On the morning of that day, Ms. Meredith M. McQuaid, Vice President in charge of international projects at the University of Minnesota, met with the delegation, extending a warm welcome to the CULR delegation. President Liu Xiangbing gave a general introduction to the development history, educational positioning, discipline characteristics, and talent cultivation of the CULR. Ms. McQuaid reviewed the history of cooperation and exchange between the University of Minnesota and China, which has been going on for over a century since 1914, and expressed her positive desire to further exchange and cooperate with the CULR.
Carlson School of Management has made careful preparations for the visit and exchange with the CULR delegation. Dean Ms. Sri Zaheer introduced to the delegation the basic information of the organizational structure, teaching staff, and talent cultivation of the school. Professor John W. Budd, Director of the Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies of the school, conducted in-depth exchanges with the delegation members around majors and curriculum settings, student projects, and academic research. Li Tao, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of the CULR, and Chang Shuang, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, discussed with their counterparts the details of the CULR's selection of outstanding students for semester learning and short-term exchanges at Carlson School of Management. Both parties reached a clear intention.
In the afternoon, the CULR delegation and Carlson School of Management held an academic discussion on labor relations between China and the United States. Qiao Jian, Director of the School of Labor Relations and Human Resources at the CULR, and Jiang Ying, Dean of the Law School, respectively elaborated on the situation of labor relations and the current development of labor legislation in China. Professor John W. Budd, Professor John Remington from the Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies, and Ms. Monica Bielski Boris, Director of the Center for Labor Education, respectively gave speeches on the current state of labor relations in the United States, the development of trade unions, and collective bargaining. The two sides engaged in warm and in-depth discussions.
During the visit, the delegation members were also shown around the campus, teaching and living facilities of the University of Minnesota.
The University of Minnesota was established in Twin Cities, Minnesota, US in 1851. It is also a member of the Academic Consortium 21 and a world-renowned undergraduate and graduate education institution and research institution, known as the "Public Ivy League". Its ranking in the United States is between 61 and 71.
