On November 28 and 29, 2011, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Shanghai Representative Office and the Center for European Studies at Fudan University jointly organized the international seminar on "Labor Market Transformation in Central and Eastern Europe" in Shanghai.
The seminar aimed to discuss the development trends of labor markets in Central and Eastern European countries and compare these trends with the experiences in China. The seminar discussed key features of the transition from a planned economy to the labor market, including strategies for introducing labor markets, restructuring of state-owned enterprises, and the role of foreign direct investment in introducing labor markets; wage and employment trends and challenges, including trends in wages and employment, migration towards the West, wage standard models; labor market policies, including establishing social partnerships, labor protection policies, policy responses to the global financial crisis of 2008-2009, and other topics. More than 30 experts and scholars in the field of labor relations and employment from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Fudan University, University of Warsaw in Poland, University of Tartu in Estonia, European Trade Union Institute, Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, and Institute for Family and Social Policy Research in Hungary attended the seminar.
Associate Professor Pan Taiping from the School of Labor Relations and Human Resources of the China University of Labor Relations was invited to attend the seminar and deliver a keynote speech titled "Research on China's Current Employment Situation and Employment Issues".
