On the morning of September 6th, Wencan Benassen, head of Labor Protection Department of Lao Federation of Trade Unions led a delegation to visit our school. Vice President Wu Wanxiong met with the delegation on behalf of our school, and relevant personnel from the Party and Government Office (Foreign Affairs Branch) participated in the discussion.
In the meeting, Vice President Wu Wanxiong extended a warm welcome to the delegation, reviewed the friendly exchanges between our school and the Lao Federation of Trade Unions, and introduced the history and characteristics of our school. He said that as the highest institution of higher learning in the trade union system in China, our university had three major functions: First, carry out training for trade union cadres at all levels as before; second, promote the establishment of characteristic disciplines regarding core contents in trade unions and labor relations; third, provide intellectual support in theoretical research and policy-making for trade unions.
Mr. Wencan Benassen thanked our school for its warm reception and praised the great achievements made by Chinese trade unions in economic and cultural development. He also pointed out that the delegation's visit had gained a lot, which was of great significance for the development of trade unions in Laos. He hoped to cooperate with our school in the training of trade union cadres and other aspects in the future, and warmly welcomed our teachers to visit Laos.
Founded in 1956, the Lao Federation of Trade Unions is an organization under the leadership of the ruling Lao People's Revolutionary Party. It has 184,000 members and maintains close and stable relations of friendly exchanges and cooperation with China's trade unions. The delegation was mainly composed of students from Lao trade unions’ cadre training course.
