At the invitation of Binghamton University, State University of New York (hereinafter referred to as Binghamton University), Vice President Liu Yufang and his delegation paid a friendly visit to Binghamton University from May 18th to May 23rd (US time) and participated in the American Industrial Hygiene Congress and Exhibition (2018 AIHce).
At Binghamton University, Vice President Liu Yufang and his delegation mainly visited the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (Watson College). Dr. Harvey G Stenger, President of Binghamton University, Dr. Hari Srihari, Executive Vice Provost for International Initiatives and Chief Global Affairs Officer, Dean of Watson College and distinguished Professor at State University of New York, Ms. Patricia Bello, Assistant Provost for International Education and Global Affairs, Director of the Center for International Student and Scholar Services, Dr. Peter Partell, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs & Administration and other officials warmly welcomed Vice President Liu and his delegation. Vice President Liu Yufang introduced the development history and professional background of our school, as well as the basic situation of collaboration with the Ministry of Education and All-China Federation of Trade Unions. He hoped the cooperative program between the Department of Safety Engineering of CULR and Watson College could serve as an opportunity to gradually deepen and expand the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. The two sides held specific discussions on the implementation details of the "3.5+1.5" joint talent training program for safety engineering. Launched by CULR's Department of Safety Engineering and Binghamton University, the program targeted undergraduate students majoring safety engineering. The two sides had reached a cooperation agreement in writing, and would start the application process in the second half of 2018, striving to send outstanding students study in Binghamton in the spring semester of 2019.
During the visit, Vice President Liu Yufang and his delegation also communicated with the Director of Research Department and several experts from the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering on the working mechanism of the research department, the improvement of university teachers' scientific research capacity, and the cooperation with the government and enterprises in scientific research.
From May 21st to 23rd, Vice President Liu Yufang and his delegation were invited to attend the American Industrial Hygiene Congress and Exhibition (2018 AIHce) held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. This year's conference covered nearly 180 technical meetings in the field of environmental health and safety and more than 70 professional development courses. Nearly 250 exhibitors presented their products and technologies at the exhibition. Vice President Liu Yufang participated in the keynote conference and attended seminars on Certified Industrial Hygienist, Occupational Safety and Health Inspection Sampling, dermatotoxicology research, visited the American Industrial Hygiene Equipment Exhibition, watched the poster presentation of professional academic papers, and learned the research topics and development status of occupational (industrial) hygiene in American universities.
During the meetings, Vice President Liu Yufang and his delegation had in-depth dicussions with Professor Shane Que Hee, Department of environmental health science, School of public health, UCLA, and Professor Leon at the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, University of Utah regarding academic development and professional subjects, and the future possibilities of exchanging visiting scholars and launching joint talent training programs. In the meeting with Dr. Ulric, Executive Director of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), the two sides discussed how to use the organization's platform to enhance our participation in academic exchanges and effective collaborative projects in the field of industrial hygiene in America and around the world.
Founded in 1946, Binghamton University is the most reputable university of the four state-level research universities in New York's state university system.
