From May 12 to May 19, 2009, Yang Yalei, Liu Ke, and Liu Haopeng, all of whom were students of the Law School of the CULR, visited to Minsk, Belarus, to participate in the "Youth for Peace" international law competition organized by the International University “MITSO”. The competition aims to enhance the understanding and mastery of public international law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law among the world's young people. Furthermore, it aims to achieve a consensus among young people from all countries on maintaining world peace. Students from eleven countries, including the Netherlands, Cuba, China, and Russia, participated in the competition.
The competition is primarily divided into two main sections, namely "Ice-breaking" and "Theoretical Rounds". The former is designed to showcase the culture and team spirit of each country through performances and posters, while the latter primarily consists of theoretical discussions and practical discussions. In the "Theoretical Practice" section, the Organizing Committee set the background based on The Matrix. Candidates drew lots to discuss, advise, and resolve practical issues related to legal counsel, prosecutors, and defenders, respectively. The two rounds fully reflect the major features of the contest, namely, "cultural exchanges" and "academic exchanges".
Through extensive exchanges with their peers from various countries, the students of the CULR have broadened their perspectives, enriched their knowledge, and enhanced their sense of mission and responsibility.
