On April 23, our school’s 12th Basic Teaching Skills Competition for Young and Middle-Aged Teachers was successfully held in classroom 508 in Beijing. School leaders, off-campus guests, 14 in-school experts, 60 teacher representatives and 40 student representatives jointly served as the judges of the competition and the heads of functional departments and nearly 100 teachers and students watched the competition.
President Liu Xiangbing pointed out in his concluding speech that this basic teaching skills competition has three notable features, namely the emphasis on the whole process of teaching, the emphasis on the extensive participation of teachers and students, and the emphasis on the use of information technologies such as Internet technology, which has greatly improved the vividness and sensibility of the class.
Vice President Liu Yufang delivered a speech indicating that the 12th Basic Teaching Skills Competition for Young and Middle-aged Teachers aims to arousing the young and middle-aged teachers’ attitude of loving their posts and being diligent, further stimulating their enthusiasm to innovate the idea of education and master the modern teaching methods, giving full play to the demonstration and leading role of the teaching competition in improving the quality of the teachers, and making efforts to create a professional teaching team that is highly ethical, professional and dynamic.
In the competition, 15 participating teachers from 12 faculties (colleges, departments) won the preliminary competition and displayed their talents, introducing “Rain Classroom” and Wechat interactive network technologies, which provided a wonderful and professional teaching class for everyone.
In the commentary of special guest Li Ruiying, “China’s Top Ten Women”, the leading figure in China’s broadcasting and hosting industry, and the visiting professor of Communication University of China, she emphasized the importance of basic teaching skills, teaching content, teacher professionalization and professional training and suggested that teachers should establish correct values, have overall awareness and sense of responsibility, and pay attention to cultivating students’ sense of social responsibility. Off-school experts made professional comments one by one on the performance of the participating teachers, fully affirmed the teaching content, teaching methods and interactive methods displayed by the participating teachers, and unanimously recognized the important role of basic teaching skills in teaching, and put forward suggestions for improvement for each teacher’s classroom teaching.
After six hours of fierce competition, under the supervision of the supervision committee, Zhang Ming, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Teaching, and Zhang Bosi, the Department of Safety Engineering, won the first prize in the competition. The competition also produced second prize, third prize, outstanding award, excellent courseware award, most popular teacher award and outstanding instructor award. School leaders Qu Zengguo, Liu Xiangbing, Cheng Guoyi, Liu Yufang, Liu Lihong, and school party committee members Yan Xiaofei, Yang Dongmei, and Jiang Ying presented awards to the winning teachers.
The success of this basic teaching skills competition further strengthened the training of basic teaching skills of young and middle-aged teachers in our school, gave full play to its demonstration role in improving the quality of teaching teams, and helped to update their educational concepts and integrate them into modern teaching methods, drove more young and middle-aged teachers to delve into business and improve the professional quality, and built a platform for outstanding young and middle-aged teachers.
The basic teaching skills competition for this session was hosted by Academic Affairs Office. The relevant departments provided strong support and assistance for its smooth running. In the report hall of Zhuozhou campus, more than a hundred students watched the live broadcast of the competition, and the live broadcast of official Weibo also attracted many students, including our graduates, to watch and interact in real time. This competition focused on the whole process of teaching and the wide participation of teachers and students, expanding the beneficiary aspect, strengthening the transformation from “teacher-centered” to “student-centered” teaching philosophy, and encouraging teachers to make rational use of information technology to meet the requirements of the new era and to arouse resonance among teachers and student groups.
