On the morning of September 13, at the invitation of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, a four-member delegation led by Joseph Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) visited our university for exchange. The delegation was received by Liu Xiangbing, Secretary of the Party Committee of our university, and Wu Wanxiong, Vice President of our university. Relevant leaders of the School of Labor Relations and Human Resources, School of Labor Union, the School of Trade Union Cadres Training, School of Model Workers (School of Craftsmen, School of Continuing Education) and International Office of Cooperation and Exchange participated in the talks and exchange.
Secretary Liu Xiangbing welcomed the NLC delegation and reviewed the history of friendly exchanges between our university and the NLC. He introduced the history of our university and the achievements made in recent years in professional construction, talent cultivation, and international cooperation. He emphasized that our university has always adhered to promoting Chinese characteristics, labor characteristics, and trade union characteristics, forming a development pattern of "one body and two wings" with talent cultivation and discipline construction as the main body, and trade union cadre training and think tank construction as the two wings. He said that since China and Nigeria established diplomatic ties more than half a century ago, their traditional friendship has become ever stronger. Practical cooperation within the framework of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation has yielded fruitful results, bringing great benefits to the people of both countries. He looked forward to more visits and exchanges from African trade union partners who maintain friendly relations with Chinese trade unions in the future. He also welcomed Nigerian trade union cadres and young students to visit our university for exchanges and learning, promoting traditional friendship and making positive contributions to building a closer China-Africa community with a shared future.
President Joseph Ajaero expressed his gratitude for the warm reception of our university, and he introduced the basic situation of Nigeria's labor training work, educational institution construction, and curriculum setting in recent years. He expressed the hope that the two sides would take this visit as an opportunity to deepen and expand exchanges, seek common ground in the fields of labor, trade unions and education and training of trade union cadres, and strive to achieve fruitful results.
During the talks, Professor Pan Taiping, Vice Dean of the School of Labor Union and the School of Trade Union Cadres Training, introduced the development and achievements of trade union cadre training in our university from the perspectives of historical evolution, teaching staff, curriculum system and training scale. Gao Liping, Head of School of Model Workers (School of Craftsmen, School of Continuing Education), introduced the efforts and achievements made in the "one core, four drives" education system of model worker education in our university, the cultivation of model workers and craftsmen, and the full implementation of the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's reply to the model worker undergraduate class in our university over the past five years. Associate Professor Zhang Yanhua, Vice Dean of the School of Labor Relations and Human Resources, introduced the progress and achievements of the major of labor relations in recent years from the aspects of specialty construction and discipline construction. Subsequently, the two sides exchanged views on the curriculum system, teaching material resources and teaching staff of trade union education.
Vice President Wu Wanxiong pointed out that since its establishment more than 70 years ago, our university has accumulated mature experience and achieved fruitful results in the field of labor, trade union and model worker training. The cooperation between the two sides has a good foundation and broad space. He hoped that through multi-channel and multi-form exchanges and cooperation in the future, the friendship between the two sides would be enhanced and the trade union industry of China and Nigeria would be promoted to a new level.
After the talks, Vice President Wu Wanxiong accompanied the delegation to visit the university history museum.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), established in February 1978, is the largest national trade union in Nigeria. It has 48 industrial trade unions with nearly 4 million members. It is a member organization of the International Trade Union Confederation, the African Regional Organization of the International Trade Union Confederation, the Commonwealth Trade Union Group, the Organization of African Trade Union Unity and the Organization of Trade Unions of West Africa. It has a traditional and friendly relationship with the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.
