From July 17 to 24, CULR organized a group of 8 teachers and students from the Department of Culture Popularization to visit the Chinese Department of National University of Singapore.
Professor SU Ruilong of the Chinese Department of NUS warmly welcomed the visiting teachers and students from CULR, briefly introduced the history and discipline composition of the Chinese Department of NUS, and carefully arranged a series of lectures and cultural activities. In the lectures, Professor SU Ruilong delivered a presentation entitled “Chinese Culture in Southeast Asia: the Confucius Church in Singapore and the Confucius Church in Indonesia”, explaining in detail the Chinese culture development in Southeast Asia, Confucianism evolution in Southeast Asia, and the formation and development of Confucius Church in Singapore, Indonesia and other places. Professor XU Qixiong's gave a lecture entitled “The reorganization of traditional clans in Singapore", introducing in detail the “past life and present life” of the Chinese clans in Singapore, the development of the clans after the reorganization, and the relationship with the primitive clans in China. Professor HUANG Xianqiang gave an onsite lecture at the Wanqing Garden, the former site of the Singapore branch of the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance (Tong Meng Hui), and introduced in detail Sun Yat-sen's history of organizing revolution in Singapore and the great contributions made by overseas Chinese during the War of Resistance against Japanese invasion.
During the visit, students and teachers from CULR also visited the Chinese Library of NUS, Museum of NUS, the Char Yong (Dabu) Association, the Singapore River and the buildings and embankments on both sides of the river. Students and teachers from CULR learned about the collection of books, cultural relics and artworks of NUS, the history and culture of Char Yong Association in Singapore, the development of the Hakkas in Singapore, and the rich experience of resource and energy conservation and ecological protection. At Chinatown in Singapore, teachers and students learned about the struggling of the Chinese people and their spirit of self-improvement, as well as the integration of the Chinese and Singaporean society.
This visit to Singapore has broadened the international vision of our teachers and students and built a platform for students' future study tours and teachers' academic exchanges.
