From April 24 to 26, President Fu Deyin and his delegation were invited to attend the 75th anniversary celebration of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (HKFTU), and had discussions with the HKFTU and graduate students in Hong Kong Special Adiministrative Region. President Fu Deyin and his delegation were received by President Ng Chau Pei and Chairman Kingsley Wong Kwok of the HKFTU. The 75th anniversary celebration of the HKFTU invited more than 1,000 participants from government departments and various sectors of society. On the day of the celebration, President Fu Deyin was invited to the first row of the rostrum for a toast. The head of the Graduate School accompanied the delegation to the celebration event.
President Fu Deyin congratulated the HKFTU at the welcome ceremony. He introduced the history of our university, pointing out that the university has distinct revolutionary traditions, has formed a development pattern of "one body and two wings", a disciplinary system with the characteristics of "labor +" and "trade union +", and a mature path of serving the theoretical research of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, and has gathered a group of experts focusing on research in the field of labor and trade unions. He also highlighted the university's characteristic education programs such as the model worker undergraduate class, graduate class, and junior college class, and put forward suggestions for carrying out model worker publicity campaigns and trade union cadre training activities in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He said that the university will strive to expand its scale on the basis of consolidating its existing achievements in the university, update the talent cultivation and teaching system, improve teaching methods, and enhance teaching quality in response to student demands. In the future, the university will further strengthen cooperation with the HKFTU.
President Ng Chau Pei pointed out that the university is an important base for talent cultivation for the HKFTU, and many students from the graduate program and diploma program have become key members of the HKFTU. Chairman Kingsley Wong Kwok congratulated the achievements of our university in construction and development, and introduced the opportunities and challenges faced by the labor movement in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in recent years. He mentioned that the labor movement in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region needs more specialized talents who understand labor movement theories and can engage in practical work. The university has a strong foundation in the theoretical research of labor relations and rich experience in trade union training. There is great potential for further cooperation, and there are high expectations for conducting model worker publicity campaigns in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
At the symposium, the two sides had an exchange and feedback on how to further strengthen daily teaching management and practical activities, and put forward specific suggestions.
The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions is the largest grassroots labour organization in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, dedicated to safeguarding labor rights and interests, promoting the improvement of people's livelihood, and serving the public. HKFTU has 410,000 members, and 252 affiliated and associated unions, representing a wide spectrum of sectors. Its service institutions and branches are located throughout Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, including 18 regional service offices and liaison offices, as well as Workers' Medical Clinics, HKFTU Discount Centre, Labour Services Centre, Study Centre, Employment Counselling Centre, Occupational Retraining Centre, and Hong Ling Society for the Well-being of the Elderly. At the same time, HKFTU attaches great importance to the development of the Greater Bay Area, with the establishment of the Greater Bay Area Community Services and 6 Mainland Consultation Services Centres.
