On November 21, 2011, the China-African (English) Trade Union Leaders Seminar was held at the International Exchange Center of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU). Jiang Guangping, Secretary of the Secretariat of the ACFTU, and 31 leaders from national trade union organizations in 9 African countries including Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, Sierra Leone, and Eritrea attended the seminar.
The seminar was organized by the International Liaison Department of the ACFTU, with the theme of "Employment and Trade Union Strategies". At the seminar, leaders and experts from trade unions in China and African countries had extensive and in-depth exchanges on the economic situation after the financial crisis, current employment conditions in various countries, and specific practices and experiences of trade unions in promoting employment and decent work.
Professor Yang Dongmei, Director of the School of Labor Union, and Professor Yan Xiaofei, Director of the School of Business Administration, were invited to attend the seminar and gave reports titled "The Role of the Employment Promotion Law and Trade Unions in Promoting Employment" and "Current Macroeconomic Situation in China", respectively.
This seminar strengthened mutual understanding between trade unions in China and African countries, and will play a positive role in helping trade unions better safeguard the rights and interests of workers, especially in terms of employment rights.
