From July 11 to 15, 2022, the Japan International Labor Foundation (JILAF) held an online seminar, inviting experts from China, Cambodia and Japan to the seminar. Yue Ling, Associate Professor from the School of Labor Relations and Human Resources of the CULR was invited to make a presentation titled Building Harmonious Labor Relations with Chinese Characteristics in the Context of COVID-19 Pandemic. The seminar was attended by delegates from the Department of Legal Services and the International Department of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Shandong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, and Duplo (Shandong).
In the presentation, Associate Professor Yue Ling introduced the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in China and the response of the government since 2022, China's present labor status in the context of the pandemic, and the efforts of China's trade unions in epidemic prevention and control, and through specific cases illustrated the hard work of all stakeholders on building harmonious labor relations despite the pandemic. The presentation aroused heated discussion among the attending audience, who had in-depth and detailed interactive exchanges in the subsequent sessions.
The theme of the seminar was the efforts made by countries to build constructive labor relations in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. President Aihara of JILAF delivered a presentation titled Topics of Current Labor Movement in Japan, and the Japanese host provided a series of video materials for a holistic introduction of Japan's labor union movement, joint activities and the social security system in support of the country's labor union movement. The event was quite helpful for us to comprehensively understand the changes in Japan's labor market in the context of the pandemic.
Founded in 1989, the Japan International Labour Foundation (JILAF) is a group dedicated to international labor relations exchange and jointly funded by the Japanese Trade Union Confederation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan. It is committed to establishing international frameworks through exchanges and cooperation, and creating a society with labor dignity, justice and fairness. The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) started friendly exchanges and cooperation with JILAF in 1997 and has maintained regular mutual visits since then.
