The 15th Asia and Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) of the International Labour Organization was held in Kyoto, Japan from December 4 to 7, 2011. This regional meeting, held every four years, brought together representatives from governments, employers, and workers' organizations from over 40 countries in Asia and the Pacific, including the Arab world in West Asia.
The theme of the 15th APRM was "Building a Sustainable Future with Decent Work in Asia and the Pacific". During the meeting, high-level sessions and a Leaders' Forum were held. Wang Xiaochu, Vice Minister of Human Resources and Social Security of China, Chen Lantong, Executive Vice President of China Enterprise Confederation & China Enterprise Directors Association, Zhang Mingqi, Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, and Jiang Guangping, Secretary of the Secretariat of the ACFTU, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
The meeting had three thematic forums on "Macro-economic Cooperation, Employment and Social Protection Policies", "Effective Employment, Sustainable Enterprise and Skills Development", and "Rights at Work and Social Dialogue". Professor Shen Qinqin from the China University of Labor Relations (CULR) was invited to attend the meeting and give a keynote speech titled "Challenges and Countermeasures Facing China's Labor Relations" at the thematic forum on "Rights at Work and Social Dialogue". She introduced the current situation of labor rights protection in China and the progress China has made in promoting decent work and social dialogue. Participants showed great interest in issues related to China's "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" on economic development, livelihood protection, and the construction of China's labor laws, and engaged in lively discussions.
