On the morning of October 11, the delegation of University of Huddersfield (HUD) led by Chancellor Bob Cryan visited CULR on the occasion of CULR celebrating the 75th anniversary. The delegation was received by Liu Xiangbing, Secretary of the Party Committee of CULR, and the meeting was attended by Wen Xiaoyi, Member of the Standing Party Committee and Director of the Organization Department, as well as the persons in charge of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the School of Labor Relations and Human Resources.
Secretary Liu Xiangbing warmly welcomed HUD Chancellor Bob Cryan and his delegation. After reviewing his visit to HUD in November 2023, he said that this reciprocal visit strengthens the intercollegiate communication and connection, and lays the foundation for substantive cooperation in the future. He expected that the two universities carry out deeper cooperation in more fields including talent training, and exchange visit of teachers.
Subsequently, both sides held a discussion in Conference Room 408 of Weishi Building, which was attended by Fu Deyin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of CULR, Li Ke, Member of the Standing Party Committee and Vice President, and the persons in charge of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the School of Labor Relations and Human Resources.
From perspectives of disciplinary settings, faculty and research institutes, President Fu Deyin introduced the present status of our university and educational achievements in recent years. He hoped that both sides seize the opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and friendship. He also welcomed British young students to our university for exchange and learning, so as to better understand China and get a true, multidimensional and panoramic view of China.
Chancellor Bob Cryan expressed gratitude for the warm reception, and appreciated the suggestion of inviting more British young students to China. He shared the information about HUD and noted that the university has always attached great importance to teaching quality, and improved the learning experience of students by uplifting the faculty's education background and professional qualifications. He hoped that the two universities continue all-round deep cooperation in a number of fields such as cultivation of technological talents, international academic exchange, certification of IET engineers and regional standardization.
Both sides had in-depth discussions and exchange of ideas on topics like the direction of future education in the AI context, cultivation of students, exchange of teachers, and education enhancement of teachers.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the exhibition of "New Era Comes from Hard Work": CULR studies and implements the spirit of Chinese President Xi Jinping's reply letter, and the university history museum.
The University of Huddersfield is a British public comprehensive university, with a history dating back to 1824, and was officially established as a university in 1992. HUD currently has approximately 30,000 students including around 4,500 international students from more than 130 countries. There are seven schools in HUD, i.e. the School of Applied Sciences, the School of Art, Design and Architecture, the School of Computing and Engineering, the School of Education and Occupational Development, the School of Business, Education and Law, the School of Human and Health Sciences, and the School of Music, Humanities and Media.
