On March 25 and 26, 2011, the Dialogue of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) was held at the headquarters of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, with President Li Deqi participating as a member of the ACFTU. The meeting was chaired by Dan Cunniah, Director of the Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) of the ILO. Jiang Guangping, Secretary of the Secretariat of the ACFTU, Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the ITUC, and Kwasi Adu Amankwah, General Secretary of the ITUC-Africa, respectively chaired the thematic discussion. Zhang Jianguo, Director of the Collective Contracts Department of the ACFTU, Guo Jun, Director of the Democratic Management Department of the ACFTU, and Yin Tongxi, Director of the Democratic Management Department of the Jiangsu Federation of Trade Unions, respectively spoke on wage negotiation, labor legislation, women's equality, and labor relations of overseas Chinese-funded enterprises. President Li Deqi made a special speech on China's trade union education and training and policy propositions of trade unions in global agreements of multilateral organizations.
The dialogue was also attended by the heads of the relevant professional departments of the ITUC, as well as officials from the relevant departments of the ILO and members of its Council. The dialogue took place in a frank and friendly atmosphere. It provides the representatives with an objective and comprehensive understanding of the basic principles of China's trade unions and the recent developments in trade union work, reflecting consensus in some common areas of concern and related issues, and laying a good foundation for deepening cooperation, exchange, and communication in the future. During the meeting, President Li Deqi also exchanged views with Mr. Hoff and Mr. Carola, senior researchers of the ACTRAV of the ILO, on the future cooperation between the CULR and the Global Labor University.
