On the afternoon of October 28, a delegation led by Lee Chong-cheng, Chairman of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions (MFTU), visited CULR for discussions and exchanges. Liu Xiangbing, Party Secretary of CULR, welcomed the delegation, who was joined by the person in charge of the Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs.
Party Secretary Liu Xiangbing expressed his gratitude to MFTU for its long-standing support for CULR's talent cultivation and labor movement initiatives. He also reflected on the history of cooperation between both sides and shared the CULR's recent progress in discipline development, faculty enhancement, as well as exchange and cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao. He shared that CULR has recently been granted the qualification to enroll students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and has introduced a first-level discipline in Public Administration, along with four new master's degree programs in Law, Business Administration, Accounting, and Resources and Environment. The academic disciplines cover a wide range of areas closely related to labor and trade unions. He noted that in the future, both sides could work together to offer degree education, short-term training, and other forms of cooperation to jointly cultivate more labor movement talents who are both patriotic and devoted to Macao.
Chairman Lee Chong-cheng expressed his gratitude for CULR's warm reception and, on behalf of Ho Sut Heng, President of MFTU, extended congratulations on the CULR's 75th anniversary. He provided an overview of MFTU and noted that since Macao's return to the motherland, and with the support of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR and CULR, a steady stream of key figures in the labor movement has been cultivated, laying a solid foundation for the implementation of the Trade Union Law. He expressed hope that, at this pivotal moment in the implementation of the Trade Union Law, CULR would continue its support and, through closer exchange and cooperation, help foster a new generation of key figures in the labor movement.
Later, both sides held a discussion in Meeting Room 308 of the Weishi Building. Li Ke, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC and Vice President of CULR, attended the discussion. Heads and representatives from the Training School for Trade Union Cadres, the Labor Model School, the Graduate School, and the Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs were also present.
Vice President Li Ke introduced CULR's four key sectors and unique educational characteristics, while also expressing a vision for more in-depth collaboration. He indicated that CULR is fully equipped to develop specialized training programs tailored to trade union cadres from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Such efforts could help chart new disciple directions that foster greater cooperation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He also suggested that both sides may work together to strengthen think tank development and provide forward-looking policy recommendations for Hong Kong and Macao. He remarked that MFTU's wealth of experience and compelling stories in labor, workforce, and trade union sectors are invaluable assets for establishing a common discourse system. Going forward, both sides can use their respective platforms to tell the trade union story under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework.
The delegation then visited the "Building the New Era through Effort" - a themed exhibition on CULR's initiatives to study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's reply letter, as well as the CULR History Museum.
As the largest trade union organization in Macao that is patriotic and devoted to Macao, MFTU plays a positive role in upholding the Constitution and the Basic Law, supporting the "One Country, Two Systems", and promoting social progress and economic development in Macao. Additionally, it has maintained long-standing friendly relations with the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and CULR.
